Sure, there are a lot of success stories but there are also a lot of frustrations and false starts as well.


I've found that one of the most powerful reasons for small business owners to adopt an online strategy is the realization that the Internet is not going away. As a matter of fact, as more individuals get online through tablets, cell phones and computers, they find it super easy to research local businesses with their devices.


A recent survey shows that most young people (18-32) get their information online. They shop online but they also look for local venues. My mother (in her 80s) shop online and look for local merchants from her computer to solve her problems. So, if a business refuses to go where their potential customers are hanging out, they won't be in business for long.


The biggest hurdle a lot of small businesses find when tackling online lead generation is figuring out what works, how to do it and how to avoid wasting a lot of money experimenting with different strategies. Marketing is not easy if there isn't a functioning system in place.

The most important thing to consider when looking for new business is that there must be more prospects out there for your product or service than you can handle. Once you've identified that there is a solid market for your business, you shouldn't have to worry about getting work.

This is true even if you are a solo entrepreneur who likes to micromanage everything. The boss’ job is to run the company and watch it grow to its full potential. If you love what you do and you're really good at it, then by all means do it. When it comes to marketing and lead generation or even sales for that matter, there is no reason in the world to make that your second job.

The vast majority of business owners don’t believe they can afford one; unfortunately they can’t afford to do business without one.
